Frequently asked questions about travel visas
What exactly is a travel visa?
A travel visa is a document issued by a foreign country that provides permission for you to gain entry into that country. It is the travelers responsibility to determine whether or not a travel visa is needed for any of the destinations they intend to travel. To see the travel visa requirements for a specific destination, please visit our page for international travel visas.
What are the requirements for obtaining a travel visa?
Each individual country will have its own specific visa requirements, and the individual Consulates/Embassies of these countries often have their own further specific requirements. However, there are some basic requirements that are mostly the same for all countries:

  • A valid U.S. passport with 2 blank visa pages and minimum 6 months validity from the date of your return to the United States.
  • Two 2 x 2 good quality passport photographs not more than 90 days old, in color, front view with body completely facing forward, and with a plain white background.
  • An online or hand fill travel visa application form.
  • Proof of intended travel (copy of round trip itinerary)
  • Company letters of intent and support for business travel

Other documents can also be individually required such as a shot records, bank statements, hotel information,  invitation letters from either a company or government entity, etc. Also, if you intend to visit / stay with family members or friends, their information will more often than not be required. The frequent changes, varied requirements and regulations, and multitude of websites providing a barrage of usually conflicting information, researching and acquiring current and accurate international travel visa information can be confusing, frustrating, and time-consuming. Between our direct contact daily with Embassy and Consular staff and our constantly updated database, UVC provides our clients the most up to date travel visa information for over 200 international destinations.

How does UVC obtain a travel visa for me?
UVC submits your duly checked and prepared travel visa documents directly to the appropriate Consulate/Embassy on your behalf. From there, we communicate and correspond directly with the consular staff on your behalf through the entire process.
Can I send copies or fax/email my visa documents, or do you require original documents and actual passport?
For the majority applications, yes original signatures and documents must be presented as well as the physical passport. Most travel visas are stamped on or affixed to a “visa page” inside of your passport. There are, however, now a few exceptions. Some countries now offer “electronic” visa types that do not require the actual passport or original documents and you can simply upload document copies to us for review and submission. For travel visa requirements for a specific destination, contact us or visit our web page for international travel visas.
If I am a national of another country residing in the United States, do I need a travel visa?
UVC provides travel visas for travelers of many nationalities. For the most part, whatever type of passport you hold, UVC can usually provide the same quick travel visa services for travel to majority worldwide destinations though for some there may be some extra documentation and/or information required. To find travel visa requirements for a specific nationality, visit our web page for International Travel Visas or contact us for assistance.
How quickly can UVC obtain my travel visa?
The processing times for travel visa can vary greatly depending on a number of things: which country you are traveling to, your nationality, the type of visa you are applying for, etc.
Can UVC obtain the additional documention necessary to apply for my travel visa (example: a Russian Invitation)?
This can vary greatly depending on your destination, desired visa type, nationality, etc. There are some documents we can provide such as the Russian tourist and business invitations (vouchers) which we we acquire for you from the Russian Foreign Ministry. Still others will have to be acquired by the travelers themselves often from the person or entity they intend to visit.
Does the photo in my passport count a passport photo? Can I submit digitally produced passport photographs?
The photo inside your passport cannot be used nor duplicated for any other purpose. The passport photos submitted with a travel visa application must adhere to specific requirements regarding the size, background color, body position, and type of paper on which the photo is printed. Generally, the required size is a 2×2 photo and they must have been taken within the last 90 days. Digital photos may be uploaded to us through our secure online order forms to be reviewed and printed.
Am I required to receive vaccinations for international travel?
Some countries require you to show proof of vaccination for certain diseases in order to apply for a visa, but this varies greatly. Also, some vaccinations may be recommended for certain destination, but not required. And still others will be necessary depending on where you have traveling recently. If any vaccinations are required to obtain a travel visa, it will be clearly listed in the visa requirements on our websites.
Is a travel visa required to just transit through a country?
Many countries do not require a visa if you are transiting or “just passing through” to another destination and are not leaving the international section of the airport staying or staying for a very short period of time. Specific transit requirements, however, vary greatly from country to country and it is up to the traveler to ensure the requirements of the countries they intend to transit through. Visit our web page for International Travel Visas for information or contact us for assistance.
What is a consular jurisdiction and how does it affect my visa processing?
A consular jurisdiction is the geographic area for which a consulate has the responsibility of issuing travel visas. Jurisdictional requirements are determined by each individual country and vary greatly. The Embassy/Consulates of some countries strictly enforcement their jurisdictional requirements while others are more flexible or have no jurisdictional restrictions at all. For example, the Consulate General of Brazil in Houston will only process a travel visa for residents of Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
What is a Schengen visa?
The Schengen visa is named after the small town in Luxembourg where a treaty was signed in 1995 to end internal border checkpoints and controls. With a Schengen visa, a traveler may enter one country, then afterwards they are allowed to travel freely throughout the Schengen zone. The Schengen visa only applies to those nationalities that would normally be required to obtain a visa prior to entering countries that are part of the Schengen Zone. Typically, U.S. citizens would not need to apply for a Schengen visa. Foreign nationals who want to apply for the Schengen visa should apply at the Consulate/Embassy of the country in which they will stay the longest. If you do not have a main destination, you should apply for a visa for the country that will be your first point of entry. UVC can not assist with Schengen Visa as it must be applied for directly by the applicant and may even require a personal appearance. The European countries that participate in the Schengen Zone and both require and honor the Schengen visa are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
I am a foreign national and have lost my US Green Card. Can UVC help replace it? Can I apply for a travel visa without it?
Many Embassies/Consulates will issue a visa if you have a copy of your green card. Traveling without it, however, is a different matter. UVC cannot assist with green card replacement nor any other U.S. immigration issues. Please visit the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website for assistance.
